Sunrise, Monday Morning

Sitting here this chilly morning with a dog at my feet and a sugar-laced cup of coffee. Been up before sunrise and on purpose! My husband and I are waking up early to exercise a few mornings a week.

It sure is frosty out there though. And today is errand day. With the new year I've tried to get more organized and that means a routine. Which is nice because I can look forward to allotted time to paint instead of franticly trying to just make it happen sporadicly.

I wanted to say thanks about all the book encouragement! And that I've been working on it :) this weekend I completed this little painting for it, only to realize that I dont like the surface I painted it on. So, this is an out-take:

I made this on a canvas board and while it looks very nice in person, it didnt scan well. The light from the scanner bounced off the texture of the canvas to create tiny fragments of glare. No good. I'm just glad I realized this before I had several done! So now I plan to do the illustrations on wood, which has a much smoother, glare-free surface.

But I wanted you to see my characters and get a feel for the story. It is, of course, an old-timey tale :) I want it to feel like a classic. Like Little House on the Prairie meets Tasha Tudor. That's the goal, anyway!

So, this week it will be back to painting for me. But don't worry, I will have new offerings in my shop. It finally occurred to me that I have several paintings that I held back for my fall shows that I have yet to list online. Many of them are dear favorites, so I hope that you'll like them :) of course I'll let you know when they're up. I'll be photographing them and writing up the listings starting today.

Here's hoping its a good week for all of us!~

PS: Oh, you want to see some more baby bunnies, you say? Well, we made another video ;) you can see it HERE.

I love the painting and the texture doesn't bother me. Did you try glazing it with something and maybe the scanner wouldn't pick up on the texture? Very excited for the book. :) Can't wait to see it.

Wonderful painting . It looks fine but for making prints to have a smooth finish, I do suppose you are right...You get up before sunrise!!!!OM...

Oh Heather your home must just be so filled with love and happiness...a precious little girl, a warm hutch of bunnies and a sweet dog! It doesn't get any better than that in life! Loved the video.
As for your painting, although you were not thrilled with the finish I have to say it reminds me of the covers of books. You know the ones that have cloth over the board? I think it kind of gives the painting a vintage book feel. I would love to see what it looks like done on wood too and compare the finishes.
Have a great start to your week and I am looking forward to watching how the book develops!

Oh my, I didn't know about the book! That is a wonderful idea! Your paintings always make me feel like a little girl again because of how magical of pretty they are, and I can only imagine what kind of enchanting story you might come up with. I'm wishing you lots of good luck on this project. I can't wait to see the updates!

The painting is beautiful!!! I think Tasha Tudor would be proud. I can sense the feel of the story. :) Sorry the texture didn't turn out the way it should - but for book illustrations it's important for a clear scan. I can't wait to see MORE! Theresa
