Out here on the prairie there is still snow on the ground. And to many's dismay, and some's delight, we are expecting another dusting this evening. In a landscape so white and still, I can't help but think of Tasha holed up in her little cottage in Vermont.

Tasha was once quoted in "The Private World of Tasha Tudor" as saying "The first snow is so exciting. The more the better. It puts me in the mind of Christmas and all the nice things that can be done in winter. You can hibernate without guilt in your New England conscience."

I have been enjoying some hibernation as of late. Audrey's had a cold and this morning, I think I've woken up with it. With all this snow outside, it has inspired a lot of leisurely naps, and plans for a gallery project I have coming up in March. It's time to sketch. And knit. And read.
For Christmas, I got the book Emily's Ghost, which lovely Bea had recommended to me a while back. By the night of the 26th I had it all finished, and yes I was a little sniffly. The book is a fictional account of the life of Emily Bronte of the famed Bronte sisters, who I have always found fascinating.

The book is a fictional account of the life of Emily Bronte of the famed Bronte sisters, who I have always found fascinating. Imagine, three sisters living in a desolate northern England village that is rather bleak (the cemetery was their front yard), wandering the wide and rolling moors... and they all managed to write some of the most beloved novels in English literature at the same time, under the same roof. Amazing.
Now I'm on to Wuthering Heights and will probably reread Jane Eyre as well. Its time for hibernation....I think Tasha would approve.
What are you reading on these cold winter nights?
Happy Tasha Tuesday!

I love what Tasha says about hibernating in New England. So true! People down in Florida may not get it, but I love winter and I love the excuse to slow down. New England seriously shuts down when there is a snowstorm and I love nothing better.
Dear Heather,
I hope you're feeling better soon! I agree, winter is the time to hibernate and enjoy the slow days.
I'm reading my January "Victoria" magazines right now!
Love,
Marqueta
I love seeing photos of Tasha's world, we too are snuggling in with already a foot of snow and feeling cozy with the wood stove crackling. We are reading many sweet new children's books Around The Year, A Time To Keep, Corgiville Christmas, A Christmas Cat... All by Tasha of course : ) Warm wishes to you Heather, I hope that you and your little one are feeling better soon! Enjoy this time of hibernation : )
I hope you both get well very soon!
I love to hibernate in the winter and believe we were created to slow down and rest more in the winter season.
I have discovered the Wicked series of books by Gregory Maguire. It is about the life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West and her family and colleagues. I am well into the second book and will likely start book three in a couple of days. I am enthralled by the stories. I will have to get Emily's Ghost. it sounds like another enthralling book!
Hello Heather..gosh I love reading these post..I actually put off coming here until I can take the time to sit and enjoy reading what you've written with a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate and just relax and take it all in.
I am a very, very big fan of hibernating, in fact, my family calls me "the hermit" as staying in and hibernating is what I do best! I do believe I have a large amount of Tasha in me :).
Right now I'm reading "Red House" by Sarah Messer which was a Christmas present from my husband...on the cover it says
"Red House"
Being a mostly accurate account of New England's oldest continuously lived-in house.
So far...I LOVE it :)
So sorry to hear you and Audry have had colds...feel better soon.
Hugs, Doreen
Hi Heather!
I always love your Tuesdays w/Tasha you know that!
I have bought two books so far .. her first one and also the Secret Garden. We have at 18" of snow where I live. It is time to drink hot chocolate, I have been reading a really neat study book along with having a strong cold/cough sinus problems. Uffda!
I wonder what Tasha would say if she knew I was making a sock monkey for my granchild?
What do you think?.. smile..*
Hugs, Darlene
Hello Heather! The book sounds LOVELY and right up my alley...I already placed it on my amazon wish list. :) "Wuthering Heights" is my all-time favorite book. I pretty much read it in one night, way back when I was in college. I fell in love with it. Is it a re-read for you, or your first time digging in.
I agree with Tasha on hibernating. Knitting, reading, curling up on the couch in front of a roaring fire - all lovely things to do!
I am sorry to hear you and your little sweetie are not well - please do feel better very soon!
:) Theresa
I have been having a rough time, lately ...
So I can't read, really ...
But I am watching DVDs of my favourite tv serie as a kid : "Dick Turpin".
The story of a highwayman who stole the riches and helped the poors.
It has the best opening ever ...

The quality of the images is quite poor (due to the fact that it's been shot in 1978 and has not been restored) but I adore it !

ooh, I may need to borrow it! I finally read "The Girl Who Could Fly" & need to return it to you.
I love that quote about hibernating too--being a New ENglander and in the midst of the second day of snow I know exactly what she means. Happy New Year Heather!
I'm excited to find this blog through Aunt Amelias Attic (another cool blog, BTW) I used to ask people if they like TT and they always got this weird blank look and then I would try to explain her and they would back away slowly. So I am now a follower! Very cool!
Heather~~~
I came at the suggestion of Aunt Amelia. So glad I did. I have been hibernating but it feels so wonderful to breathe in that startling cold air once in awhile while on a little walk. I do love winter.
I'd love to read Emily's Ghost. As I have only read Jane Eyre, I have been of course, a Charlotte fan. Wuthering Heights is sitting here and I need to get to it. But a fictional account of the Bronte sisters? Lovely!! Thanks for the heads up!
xoxo
Jane
