Last year I came back from Arizona dreaming of Mexican Icon art. This time I came home inspired by something a little closer to home....

Think I might paint my first banjo soon ;)
I just love this. Flappers + instruments + old timey music= love
I think I'll be listening to a lot of Gillian Welch in the studio. So dont get a hitch in your giddy-up....
;)
PS! Do you have a facebook page? Wanna be a fan of Audrey Eclectic there? Well come on over! Here's the new Facebook page. See you there!

what a great photo!
I can't wait to see the inspiration you take from this : )
I loved the commission piece Heather.
You really have your own distinct stye, this portrait looks modern and old-timey at the same time!
Love...Lisa
PS Facebook? I'll check you out, but I just can't imagine learning anything else this week, LOL
I'm completely obsessed with the Carter Family! I read a phenomenal book last year that you might be interested in, Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone: The Carter Family and Their Legacy in American Music. The authors are Mark Zwonister and Charles Hirshberg. There's also a PBS American Experience Documentary about them that is fascinating. I'm so excited to see the inspiration you take from this photo.
Love this photo!!! So glad you had a great trip and I can not wait to see what new things your hands will create.
:)Hugs,
Doreen
I LOVE Gillian Welch! She's one of my faves. I'm already a fan of Audrey Eclectic, but I'm heading over to Facebook to make it official. ♥
Aimee-
You're the second person to recommend this book to me! I must check it out. I have "Anchored in Love" John Carter Cash's bio of his mother, June. It sort of touches on the Carter family, but its such an amazing story...shows how any one of us can change things if we follow our muse!
I bought a signed copy of anchored in love! I really admire Johnny Cash and his family! Love that book.
Can't wait to see what you come up with! :)
My brother is a banjo player! He started with guitar and wanted to try the banjo too, and that's all he plays anymore. He's actually pretty good too! I never really got into bluegrass music until he introduced me to some artists that completely blew me away. I think that painting a banjo is an awesome idea, and I hope you'll show us the result when you do it.
Yeeeeha! ;) I can't wait to see where you go with this! I can never get enough of old-timey~ the Carters, Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Elizabeth Cotten... This will suit your style wonderfully.
I was going to mention the PBS special about the Carter family - I see someone else did too:_ It was fascinating and gave a wonderful glimpse into mountain cultural heritage and music.
Gorgeous work!
