In a very Little House style miracle, we all seem to finally be getting well here. And although I had some extra time today, I didnt really feel like painting. So I cleaned off my desk in the studio and filed all my art magazines. Ahh, I feel like I can breath easier! I have a feeling the brushes will come out tomorrow. It's been too long.
But I've learned that you can't force the urge to paint. When I do, I just make stale little pictures. I guess you just have to moved to really create something worth looking at.
Tomorrow is March 1! I am terribly excited. March is a special month-- the beginning of spring and little Audrey's birthday! I was thinking the other day....when I was a kid, March was also kite buying month. Everyone went to the store and bought a kite. March winds made for perfect kite flying weather. There were tons of kites to choose from at the store.
Now...I dont think kids do that any more. I haven't seen a kite in a good long time. Makes me both a) a little sad and b) feel old that something I did as a kid is now old fashioned. Sorta like when I remember that no one had a cell phone when I was in high school. OMG no one texted?!? Yep, the good old days....
I have no idea what this week will bring for me artwise. You and me both will just have to wait and see :)
Wont it be fun!~

We even had kite-flying days at school every year (in elementary) and our parents could come and join us for lunch. I remember looking forward to it so much! I also remember my very first kite -- it was one of those plastic flimsy ones (but I didn't care) with Snoopy on it and a rainbow behind him.
I think you should revive the kite flying tradition. I remember my last visit to San Francisco it was still very popular and what fantastic kites! Not those paper ones that rarely made it off the ground without ripping but beautiful works of art.
when I was in high school, no one had cordless phones, much less cell phones! No computers back then either! We actually had to hand write our assignments for class. Gasp! The horror of it!
I am so glad you guys are feeling better.
I miss kites too!
Kites are still a big part of spring at my house. Such magic in a child's hand.
Growing up we would always fly kites in the spring. Can't say I had a beautiful one. My kite was usually a refund item that my Mom would get free. She was big into that. We had a Mr. Kool Aid kite or The Green Giant. Ha ha I remember the best one we had was White Cloud, unfortunately that was the name of toilet paper, but boy did it get up there. Hee hee
I am with you, all kids should fly kites!

I made my own kite every year! Tied together dowls and covered with paper that we decorated with crayons then hung on a knotted cloth tail. They were vertically challenged, got no air, but I made one optimistically each time. Thanks for the memory!
Makes me think of the Kite Runner...

hi heather!
happy birthday to audrey!
your desk looks great! i totally agree with you. creating art is an energy thing and you cannot force it. sometimes you just need to create space for it and that was what you did with your desk. it looks wonderful!
great post! i am so glad you all are feeling better!

What a beautiful workspace!I wish I had the energy to clean mine.
I totally understand-some days you just cannot do artwork.
Glad to hear you're all doing better:)
We're all getting colds here:(
Happy birthday to Audrey!!
Andrea
oooh...beautiful! I LOVE the stamps you have and stamped on my package, where did you get them? I got my print of Blossom and it is beautiful!!!
My son, who is 13, actually went kite-flying last week with a friend. It took them longer to untangle the string, than to fly it! They had fun, and he wants to go again!
Your desk looks ready for art....organizing always helps me get creative!
Your desk looks so fabulous! I could never be that organized(though I can dream about it!). I am glad you are all feeling better. I have been on serious art lag/stuck/rut situation. Who knows what will happen.
We used to make kites with my parents when I was little and no one had even thought of a cell phone. When I was in college we still used typewriters and no one had a computer! When I lived in Greece and went to school we didn't even have typewriters and it was fabulous. I spent hours writing letters to my friends and family. I think I was just supposed to write letters to people!
Hope you have great week! And, I hope everyone stays well!
love,merle
You'll be happy to know that today, while driving to my moms, I saw two kids outside trying to fly a kite! And its not warm, the 30s, but they were trying!
Heather, your art is so lovely, as is your blog. Thanks so much for leaving a comment on my blog, which in turn led me to yours. That clean desk was truly inspiring! lol I can't remember the last time my desk looked like that.
Happy birthday to Audrey!
My blog was doing weird things past few days, but it seems ok now. Anyways, thanks for leaving me a comment! I have to say I am still a big fan of kites. My brother and I used to make our own kites, making them as beautiful as we possibly could and I must say we were pretty good...:) Your art space is looking good!
Wow, nice and clean work space! I got to clean my messy desk!
I hope March is a great month for you!
Hi We are having a kite flying festival in our town this month, we may go with the girls but we haven't really flown kites with them much. I have friends with 12 and 13 y/o's with mobiles this seems crazy to me too. Good luck with the inspiration. Belinda
I love your "Art room". I wish I have that space. My sewing machine is on a tiny metal table, and then my laptop is stored on a shelve when I need a "art table". Sigh!
Your desk is so pretty! Love it!
